Funeral mass for Wilma Barta, age 87 of Howells, will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Howells. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 3 PM to 7 PM and 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM on Thursday. Rosary will be recited on Wednesday at 7 PM. Burial will be in the St. John’s Catholic Cemetery.
Wilma is the daughter of Emil and Anna (Uher) Brazda, Karel and was born May 3, 1927 in Colfax County. She attended Colfax County School District 35. She worked in Schuyler and Norfolk before her marriage to Richard Barta on August 17, 1950 at Holy Trinity Heun. She and Richard lived on a farm NW of Howells until 2010 when she moved to St. Joseph’s Home in West Point. Wilma had been a resident at Parkview Home in Dodge since August of 2014 until her death on February 22, 2015. She was a member of St. John’s Altar Society and a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Wilma was an avid baker and her family and friends enjoyed the fruits of her labor. She loved to play cards, embroider and refinish wood furniture.
Wilma is survived by three sons, Dick (Jean) Barta of Urbandale, Iowa, Adrian (Pam) Barta of Howells, Greg Barta of Blair; daughter, Janelle (Allen) Lang of St. Paul, NE; ten grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; brother, Raymond (Marcella) Karel of Columbus.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Richard (12/21/1995); sister, Helen (Brazda) Kucera; brother, Otto Brazda.
