William "Bill" D. Ponec, 79, of David City, died Monday, April 9, 2007 at St. Joseph's Villa in David City. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am Friday, April 13, 2007 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in David City. Visitation will be Thursday from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm at Chermok Funeral Home and after 6:00 p.m. at the church, with a Knights of Columbus Rosary following at 7:00 pm at the Church. Refreshments and fellowship will follow the rosary at St. Mary's gym.

Bill was born Aug. 4, 1927 to Charles and Emma(Hostek)Ponec in Omaha. He married Elsie Svoboda on Aug. 5, 1948 at Assumption Church, Appleton and lived most of his life in Butler County. He was a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus, a member of Catholic Workman and had the honor of being one of the first installed acolytes in the diocese of Lincoln. He served as a commentator, lector, and rosary leader for St. Mary's Church. His church and family were the two big things in his life. He also enjoyed fishing, polka music and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his wife Elsie; Sons: William "BJ" Ponec of David City; Charles and Glenda Vetter Ponec of Grand Island; Daughters: Sonja Mueller of Sterling, CO; Shari and Jim Raders of Sioux City, Iowa. Two brothers: Robert Ponec of Seward and Marv and Clarice Capoun of Schuyler. One sister, Myra and Bernard Kouma of Lincoln. 5 Grandchildren and 2 Great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law: Clark Mueller and sister-in-law: Margaret Ponec.
