Valerian H. "Tom" Hlavac, 77, of Bruno, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2009 in Columbus. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, June 1, 2009 at the Chermok Funeral Home in David City. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday June 1 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. Burial will be in the Bruno National Cemetery. Military rites will be under the direction of the Rejda Post 123 of the American Legion.
Tom was born on July 10, 1931 in Bruno to Adolph and Elsie (Fricke) Hlavac. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He later worked for Western Electric in Kansas City before returning to Bruno to help his parents with the farm.
Tom was a member of the Rejda American Legion Post 273 in Brainard. He served as a Butler County Supervisor for many years.
Tom is survived by a brother, Alvern, and a sister Orletha (Oley), both of David City and many neices and nephews.
