Theophal "Phil" Kastl, 94, of Grand Island, formery of Brainard, died Sunday, June 19, 2011 at the Grand Island Veteran's Home.
Funeral Services will be Friday, June 24, 2011 at 2:00pm in Holesovsky Mortuary, Brainrd. Viewing will be Friday, from 11-1:30pm followed by a Rosary all at Holesovsky Mortuary. Burial will be at St. Anthony's Cemetery, Bruno, NE.
Graveside Military Rites will be provided by Rejda Legion Post 273 of Brainard, Nebraska

Phil was born on August 4, 1916 to Jacob and Mary (Stara) Kastl at Bruno, Nebraska. He was a 1935 graduate of Brainard High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served in WWII in the Aleutian Islands until his discharge in 1946.
After military service, Phil operated a restaurant; Kastl's Coffee Cup in San Francisco for over 30 years, he also owned and managed rental properties in Santa Rosa, California for over 40 years.
Phil was a member of Brainard American Legion Rejada Post #273; he also enjoyed Czech music and wine tasting.
Phil is survived by his sons; Daryl Kastl of Idaho and John Kastl of Santa Rosa, CA; grandson Jason Kastl of Santa Rosa, CA as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Jerome Kastl,brother Joseph Kastl and grandson Ryan Kastl.
