Funeral services for 89 year old Sylvia Houfek, of Schuyler will be at 1:00 P.M. Friday, October 16th at the Svoboda Funeral Home North Chapel. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday at the North Chapel. Burial will be in the Schuyler Cemetery. Sylvia passed away Sunday, October 11, 2015 in Norfolk.
Sylvia was born April 28, 1926 in Schuyler to John and Antonia (Ondracek) Machacek. She attended Colfax County District 19 School. On October 10, 1955 she married Robert F. Houfek. Sylvia was a lifelong resident of Schuyler. She was a fifty plus year member of the Z.C.B. J. Lodge. She enjoyed cooking, Husker football, polka music, visiting with neighbor ladies and helping others. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Sylvia is survived by two daughters: Debra (Terry) Coolidge of Norfolk and Nancy Houfek of Schuyler, one son: Darryl Houfek of Schuyler, husband Robert Houfek of rural Schuyler, granddaughters: Dawn (Erik) Bruflat of Norfolk and Melissa Coolidge of Norfolk, two great grandchildren: Mariah and Noah Bruflat and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers John and Alden and sisters Antonette, Wilma and Olga.
