Sophie C. Steager, 101, of David City, died Sunday, September 8, 2013 at the Butler County Health Care Center in David City.
Funeral Mass will be Thursday, September 12, 2013, 10:00am at St. Mary's Church, David City with Fr. Matthew Zimmer as celebrant. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery. Viewing will be Wednesday from 5-7pm at Chermok Funeral Home followed by a 7pm Rosary. Additional viewing will be Thursday, from 9-10am at the church.

Sophie Steager, daughter of John and Josephine(Dolezal)Polacek was born on February 21, 1912 at Brainard. She attended rural country school District 77 and Holy Trinity School in Brainard.
On January 15, 1935, she was united in marriage to Ernest Steager at Holy Trinity Church, Brainard. One child was born to this union. They lived on a farm near David City for a few years and then moved to a farm near Surprise. They lived in the Surprise vicinity for many years and it was the area in which they eventually retired.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Shelby. In 1990, she moved to David City. She was a current member of St. Mary's Church and PCCW.
Sophie is survived by her son, Dennis(Donna Lou)Steager of Rising City, two grandsons: Donnie(Stacy)Steager and Dannie(Sheri)Steager both of Surprise, 3 great-grandchildren: Makenna, Ty and Taylor Steager.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ernest in 1991, 5 brothers and 5 sisters.
