Sister Thomas Patrick Dooley O.P., 82, of David City, died Monday, January 4, 2010 at the Butler County Health Care Center in David City.
Funeral Mass will be Friday, January 8, 2010 at 10:30am in St. Mary's Church with Msgr. Adrian Herbek officating and diocesean priests concelebrating.
Viewing will be Thursday from 2-5pm at Chermok Funeral Home and after 6pm at the church followed by a 7pm Wake Service. Additional viewing will be Friday, one hour before services at the church.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be given to the Aquinas Endowment Fund, Guardian Angel Fund or the Dominican Sisters of Peace: 2320 Airport Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43219-2098.
Sister Thomas Patrick was born Eulalia M. Dooley, in Greeley, NE, on February 23, 1927, to Thomas and Rose (Dillon) Dooley. Prior to entering religious life, she was the secretary to the credit manager at JL Brandeis Department Store in Omaha, NE, and then worked for the IRS in Idaho. She entered the Dominican Novitiate of the former St. Catharine of Siena congregation, St. Catharine, KY, in 1950 and made her Profession of Vows in 1952, taking the religious name of Sister Thomas Patrick.
Sr. Thomas Patrick earned a BA from Ursuline College (Louisville, KY) in biology with minors in secondary education, theology, and philosophy. She also earned an MS in biology and ecology from St. Mary’s College (Winona, MN). Her ministry in education brought her to many schools: St. Patrick, Missouri Valley, IA (1952-55); Our Lady of Peace, Chicago, IL (1955-60); St. Bartholomew, Chicago, IL (1960-61); St. Francis, Forrest City, AR (1961); St. Patrick, Missouri Valley, IA (1961-62); Rosary Academy, Watertown, MA (1963-64); SS. Simon and Jude, Louisville, KY (1964-65); Kearney Catholic, Kearney, NE (1965-68, 71-77); Sacred Heart High, Greeley, NE (1968-70); Spalding Academy, Spalding, NE (1977-80); and Aquinas High School, David City, NE (1983-05) where she continued to substitute teach until her death. Sr. Thomas Patrick also ministered as the Assistant Treasurer for the Generalate in St. Catharine, KY (1980-83). She is survived by her niece, nephew, and cousins.
