Sandra Scharnweber-Schmid was born on October 11, 1933 in Mitchell, South Dakota to Merritt and Florence(Zeitschel) Scharnweber. She spent her early childhood in Mitchell, SD, Bellevue, NE and Columbus, NE. Sandra graduated from Columbus High School in 1951. She met her husband, Dale Schmid at the roller rink above the current Dusters in Columbus and the two were united in marriage at the Columbus United Methodist Church on January 25, 1952. They were blessed with five children, Gary, Dan, Rebecca, Doug and Ron.
Sandra and Dale lived Northeast of Shelby for the past 60 years; the last 42 years 3 miles North and 3 East of Shelby. She was a member of the Shelby United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, was involved in the United Methodist Women, and enjoyed playing piano on Sunday mornings. Sandra greatly enjoyed our Lord's creation by tending to her flowers and garden. She always looked forward to meetings and working the Amway business with George and Ruth Ann. Sandra took up golfing when the bug hit Dale. She loved shopping and was always baking(chocolate chip cookies) and making homemade apple sauce. Recently, Sandra volunteered some time at The Bone Creek Museum in David City. One of her great joys was spending time with all her great-grandchildren.
