Ruth J. Sabata was born on December 7, 1937 in Wahoo, Nebraska, to Joseph and Adeline (Chmelka) Zelda. She graduated from Osceola High School in 1955. She met her future husband, Richard, at a polka dance at Sokol Auditorium in Omaha. On August 11, 1962, she married Richard L. Sabata at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Omaha. After marrying, they moved to the family farm just up the road from Richard's home place where Rita and her husband, Bill, currently reside. Two children were born to this union, Gregory and Rita.
Ruth worked hand-in-hand with Richard on the family farm caring for cattle and pigs and helping Richard with planting/harvesting crops. Ruth also worked at Kennel Vaccine in David City and retired from St. Joseph's Villa/Court in David City later in life. She had a heart of gold and valued the friendships she made with anyone she met. She enjoyed going to Saturday evening mass and she was a faithful follower of God. She also loved being grandma to her grand-puppies Belle, Marbles, and Ace.
Ruth is survived by her daughter Rita (Bill) Veach of Brainard; sister Bernice Nitsch of Columbus; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Adelina Zelda; husband Richard in 2005; son Gregory Ronald in 1964; brother Milvoy; brothers-in-law Robert Sabata, Jr., Leonard Sabata, and Bernard Nitsch; and sister-in-law Norma Matulka.
