Rolland “Rollie” Svec, 88, of Rogers, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at Methodist Hospital in Fremont.
Memorials can be directed to an organization of the donor’s choice.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, March 25, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity at Heun. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3 until 5 at Svoboda Moravec Johnson Mortuary in Schuyler. A Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited on Monday at 10 a.m. at the church. Lunch will immediately follow mass with interment in the Schuyler Cemetery on Monday at 2 p.m. Svoboda Moravec Johnson Mortuary of Schuyler is handling arrangements for Rollie’s family.
Rolland Dean Svec was born on January 7, 1936 in the Schuyler area to James and Tillie (Pokorny) Svec. He was baptized May 14, 1936 at Holy Trinity at Heun, and attended all of his catechism classes there as well.
On November 28, 1986 he married Magdaline M Reznicek Sindelar at Holy Trinity at Heun. Rollie was a graduate of Schuyler High School with the class of 1953. He loved being a farmer and particularly loved raising cattle, even belonging to the Cattlemen’s Association. Rollie and Magdaline lived on his home place and he took great pride in keeping the ground and house in tip top shape. Rollie was deeply devoted in his faith and was a faithful member of Holy Trinity at Heun. Rollie and Magdaline were some of the church’s first EMHCs. Rollie served as a parish trustee, the sacristan, and sang regularly in the church choir. He was a member and served as an officer with the Catholic Workman group. He was an active member of the Howells Knights of Columbus, earning the honor of Knight of the Year, and in 2018 earning Knights of Columbus Family of the Year.
He is survived by his wife Magdaline, stepchildren: Diane (Steve) Grate of Wentzville, MO; Karen (Derek) Kluthe-Hill, of Lincoln; Alan (Veronica) Sindelar, of Sioux Falls, SD; step grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother Leroy (Patricia) Svec of Seward; sister Gladys (Bill) Romo of Ottawa, Canada; sisters-in-law Mary Ann Svec of Scribner, and Julie Svec of Blair as well as many nieces and nephews.
Rollie is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Elden Svec and Dennis Svec.
