Robert Edward Cerny, 77, of Rogers, NE. passed away Friday, August 1 at his home. Bob was born July 9, 1937 northwest of Clarks, Nebraska to Edward and Helen (Mares) Cerny. He graduated from Schuyler High School in 1954. On January 5, 1956, Bob married Elsie Lodes at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dodge. Bob farmed and was on the original construction crew building Spencer Beef (Cargill) in Schuyler. Bob retired from Cargill in 2003. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Mary’s Church Council, District 11R School Board where he served as president, livestock inspector for the State of Nebraska, vice-president of the Nebraska Jaycees, 34 year member of A.A., and president of the Nebraska Woody Floral Association.
Bob loved farming, singing in the church choir, the outdoors where he enjoyed fishing, family camping, following his children through their many sporting events, racing stock cars and later watching his sons race stock cars.
He is survived by his wife Elsie of Rogers, children: Keith (Debbie) of Alamosa, CO, Joel (Rhonda) of Schuyler, Kaye (Tim) Heavican of Schuyler, Daniel of Schuyler, Roger (Julie) of Richland, Eric and special friend Evelyn of Rogers, 17 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 4 sisters: Doris (Ronald) Mehaffey of North Bend, Nadine (Emil) Beran of Howells, Gloria (Jack) Jonas of Fergus Falls, MN, and Mary (Tim) Priester of Golden, CO.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and mother and father in law Bess and Henry Schlautman.
