Richard D. Sweney, 57, of David City, died Tuesday, December 12, 2006 in Saunders County, Nebraska. Services will be Saturday, Dec. 16 at 10:00am at St. Mary's Church, David City. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery Viewing will be from 2-5pm at Chermok Funeral Home and after 6pm at St. Mary's Church followed by a 7pm Knights of Columbus Rosary. Memorials are in care of the family.
Richard D. Sweney was born on November 9, 1949 at David City to Dale and Frances(Fadschild)Sweney. He attended the David City schools and went on to graduate from Milford Tech School in 1970. He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War remaining stateside. He married Patricia Speicher on Sept. 26, 1970 at St. Peter's Church in Bellwood. He was a member of the David City American Legion Post 125; a 3rd degree Knight of Columbus; active in St. Mary's Church, Knights of Columbus; Boy Scout Troop 268 and a member of the state and national Blacksmith Association. He owned and operated Butler County Welding in David City.
He is survived by his wife Pat; Sons: Jeff(Jae) of Bennett; Chris (Sherri) of Gretna; Daughter: Jenny(Jake)Hopkins of Bellwood; one sister: Sandi Sweney of Neenah, WI; 6 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jack.
