He graduated from Schuyler High School in the class of 1970. After graduation Rick worked at Spencer Foods where he worked for 45 years, retiring from Cargill due to medical reasons in 2015. Rick married his high school sweetheart, Diane Bohuslavsky, on May 19, 1973 at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Schuyler.

Rick was a hard worker all of his life and everything he did was for his family. Before moving to town in 2008, he loved the peace and quiet of the country life, raising pigs and enjoying a few cold beers with his best friend, Alfie. He always had a good story to tell and people soon knew not to take him serious. He always said he learned from the best, his father-in-law Eugene. His greatest joy in life were his three grandchildren, Madelyn, Maiya, and Owen.

He is survived by his wife, Diane of 51 years; daughter Rachael (Landon) Boyer of Franklin, TN and their children Madelyn (Fiance Max Bernstein) of Philadelphia, PA, Maiya a Junior at Kentucky, Owen a Senior in Franklin, TN; daughter Nicole Brandl of Columbus, NE; sisters Sherril (Jack) Mefford of Papillion, Sally (Ken) Hahn of Norfolk, brothers Ray Brandl of Linwood, Russell Brandl of Omaha, and Roland Brandl of Schuyler; sisters-in-law Connie Brandl of Tribune, KS, Jean Brandl of North Platte, Bonni (Bob) Wright of Lincoln; brother-in-law Bruce Bohuslavsky; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Rick is preceded in death by his 3 month old daughter Stacie, parents Eugene and Fern Brandl; Parents-in-law Eugene and Shirley Bohuslavsky; brothers Roger and Robert Brandl; sisters-in-law Linda Brandl, Lisa Brandl and Janice Bohuslavsky; niece MaryAnn Brandl and nephew Robert Bohuslavsky.
