Richard was born May 9, 1926 in Dodge to Emil and Anna (Vogltance) Maresh. He attended St. Wenceslaus grade school and graduated from Dodge High School in 1944. Richard served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952, serving in Korea. Following his military service, Richard returned to the family farm where he farmed his entire life. On May 22, 1955, Richard married Alice Wiese at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lindsay He was a lifelong member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, FCSLA, and the Disable American Veterans. Richard loved listening to polka music, dancing, reading and watching his grandchildren participate in their sporting events, especially basketball.
Richard is survived by his wife Alice, of Dodge, sons Kevin and Paul of Dodge, daughters Naomi (Terry) Thies of Sterling, NE, and Deb (Chris) Prantl of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren: Nathan and Colby Thies, Katie, Ben, Jessie and Nick Prantl; brother-in-law Louis Bohaboj of West Point and many nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Mary Ann Bohaboj, Rita Spenner and Audrey Ptacek, and granddaughter Emily Prantl.
Richard passed away Wednesday January 115, 2014 at St. Frances Memorial Hospital in West Point. Burial will be in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery.
