Reuben Doerneman, 85, of Howells passed away Tuesday, October 3rd, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital in West Point.

Reuben was born February 5, 1932 in West Point to Theodore and Amelia (Schlautman) Doerneman. After graduating from Guardian Angles High School, in West Point, Reuben enlisted in the Air Force and served his county from 1951 to 1955. When he returned from Korea he married Arlene Hegemann on August 2nd, 1955 at S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Howells.
Reuben loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He operated Doerneman Hardware for many years in Howells and was known to many in town as “Mr. Fixit” or the Maytag Man. He took great pride in being one of the founding members of Howells Rescue Squad, and also served on the Howells Community Planning Board and was also a member of the American Legion Post 155. His favorite pastime was to sit on his porch swing and chat with his family and friends while cracking jokes or working in his workshop.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years Arlene Doerneman; Sons: Jeff(Doris) Doerneman of Gilbert, AZ, Randy(Gretchen) Doerneman of Norman, OK, Doug(Paula) Doerneman of Omaha, Russ(Lori) Doerneman of Goddard, KS; Daughters: Deb(Ray) Matthes of Westminster, CO, Lois(Pat) Diederich of Elkhorn, Linda (Wade) Stahlecker of Fremont; 24 Grandchildren; 4 Great Grandchildren; Sister: Joyce(Ken) Schlickbernd of Beemer; Sisters-in-Law: Viola Doerneman of Fremont, and LaVaine Doerneman of West Point.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and three bothers Marvin, Howard, and Wilber Doerneman.
