Raymond Vanis

Raymond B. Vanis, age 82, of David City passed away Sunday July 24, 2011 at The Monarch in Lincoln.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday July 27, 2011 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in David City with Fr. Kenneth Wehrs as celebrant.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2 until 5 PM at Chermok Funeral Home in David City and after 6 PM at the church with a 7 PM Knights of Columbus Rosary.
Memorials have been suggested to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Aquinas High School or the American Cancer Society.
It was Ray's wish to donate his body for cancer research.

Ray was born Born April 20th, 1929, in rural Bee, NE, to William and Agnes (Vodicka) Vanis. In his early years, his family lived near Garland and later moved to the Marietta area where he lived until after he married Bunny and moved into David City. Ray moved to the Monarch Care Facility in Lincoln on his 52nd wedding anniversary where he remained until his passing.
He was a retired USPS mail carrier and Korean War veteran. Ray married Bernice (Bunny) VerMaas at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Cheney, NE on July 18th, 1959.

Survivors include his wife; son Jacob (Vickie) and children Ryan, Chase and Brayden of Hickman; daughter Geri (Tim) Shipley and daughter Morgan of Lincoln; daughter Barb Scholz and children Jon and Natasha of Lincoln; son Brian (Heather) and children Cade, Kai and Crew of Eagle; brother Marion (Marge)Vanis of Rising City; sisters Wilma (Jerry) DeWispelare of Octavia and Dorothy (Ken) DeWispelare of David City; sisters-in-law Lucille Vanis of St. Libory and Elise Vanis of Centennial, CO.
He was preceded in death by parents; brothers Harry and Jim; sisters Marcella (Bob) Brezina and MaryAnn (LeRoy) Zegers; and son-in-law Troy Scholz.
