Ralph “Mike” Parr, 87, of Schuyler passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at David Place in David City.
Ralph Carl Parr was born on February 19, 1935 in Dodge, Nebraska to Ben and Margaret (Burenheide) Parr. He attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic School in Dodge. He enlisted in the United States Navy at age 17. While serving he was stationed on the USS Rochester, a heavy cruiser. Through his service he received the China Service, Korean, United Nation, and National Defense Medals.
Upon his honorable discharge in 1956 he married Margaret “Sis” Wisnieski on August 17, 1957 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Schuyler. He worked for nearly 40 years with Behlen Manufacturing retiring in 1997. Mike enjoyed going on camping trips with Sis, working on numerous wood projects, and tending to the large backyard garden.
Mike is survived by his daughter Candy (Mike) Pernsteiner of Evans, WA; brother Gilbert (Lee) Parr of Fremont, NE; brother-in-law Dan (Chris) Wisnieski of Schuyler and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Sis in 2011, brothers: Victor, Sylvester, Edwin, Robert, Ernest, Clarence, and Lambert Parr.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. on July 15, 2022 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Schuyler with Fr. Jairo Congote officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 until 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. parish rosary, held at Svoboda Funeral Home-905 A Street. Visitation will resume Friday from 10 until 10:30 at the church. Burial, with military honors, will be in the Schuyler Cemetery with lunch following in the St. Mary’s Social Hall. Svoboda Funeral Home is handling arrangements for the family.
