Genevieve R. Hanus, 92, of Lincoln, formerly of David City, died Friday at Eastmont Towers in Lincoln.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, May 2 at 10:00am in St. Mary's Church, David City. Burial in Sts. Peter and Mary Cemetery, rural Bellwood. Viewing will be Thursday, May 1 from 2-5pm at Chermok Funeral Home with a Catholic Daughters Rosary at 4PM and additional viewing after 6pm at St. Mary's Church. A wake service/PCCW rosary will be held on Thursday at 7pm at the church followed by family greeting friends in St. Mary's Hall with refreshments provided.
Genevieve was born on July 24, 1915 at David City to John and Augusta(Benda)Birkel. She attended and graduated from area schools and went on to Lincoln to graduate from Beauty college. She married John J. Hanus on November 18, 1947 at St. Mary's Church, David City. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, The PCCW, and Catholic Daughters of America.
Gen enjoyed baking, sewing, gardening, playing cards and singing songs. She did embroidery work as well as needlepoint. She canned, loved to dance and spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include: Son, John(Penne)Hanus of Lincoln; Daughters: Kay(Mel)Cihal of Dwight, Connie(Don)Johnson of Lincoln and Karen(Paul)Steffensmeier of Fremont, WI. One sister: Bertha Hilger of Kingsley, Iowa; 12 Grandchildren and 14 Great-grandchildren. Four sisters-in-law: Ludy Birkel of David City; Sr. Marietta Hanus,OSF of Milwaukee, WI; Clara Meysenburg of David City and Rita Meysenburg of Omaha.
Gen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John in 1983, two children: Jeannie Hanus and Gerald Hanus; infant brother Herman and brother John Hanus; three sisters: Caroline Birkel, Angeline Sutter and Josephine Albers.
Memorials may be given in care of the family.
