Pearl Bergt

Funeral service for Pearl Bergt, age 87 of Lincoln – formerly of Schuyler, will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 1:30 PM at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Schuyler. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4 PM to 7 PM at the Svoboda Funeral Home North Chapel in Schuyler and on Tuesday starting at 12:30 PM at the church. Burial will be at 3:30 PM on Tuesday at the Schuyler Cemetery.

Pearl was born November 7, 1927 in Grand Island to Albert and Anna (Dahl) Sumner. She grew-up in Rogers and graduated from Schuyler High School in 1945. She taught rural school northwest of Schuyler for two years and taught one year at Trinity Lutheran School in Schuyler. On November 26, 1947 she and Ervin Bergt were married at Immanuel Lutheran Church northwest of Schuyler, They farmed in that area and along with their dairy herd they raised and showed registered Black Angus cattle. Pearl was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aid, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and Walter League. She was also a member of the Schuyler Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and operated the hospital gift shop for several years. She loved to cook and bake and help on the farm. Pearl moved to Chateau Gardens at North Cotner Boulevard and Vine Street in Lincoln April 14, 2008 to be closer to her daughter. Pearl died on April 3, 2015 at Eastmont Towers.

Pearl is survived by four children, Evelyn (David) Hempy of Montgomery, Texas, Eileen Bergt (Charles DeVries) of Lincoln; Elgin Bergt of Schuyler and Eugene (Angela) Bergt of Jacksonville, Florida; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ervin (2/21/2008); three brothers, George, Harry and LeRoy Sumner; one sister Ethel Sloma.
