Orval Smith, 93, of David City passed away Thursday, June 13, 2019 at St. Joseph's Villa in David City with his daughter, Judy and grandson, Kyle and wife Alicia by his side until shortly before his passing.
Orval was born October 31, 1925, near Bellwood, Ne to Henry and Rose (Schrier) Smith. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph's Catholic Church and attended school in Bellwood through the 9th grade.
On June 28, 1958, Orval married Mary Ann Stoddard of Surprise, at Sacred Heart Church, Shelby. Two children were born to this union, Judy and Ronald Merl. Ronald was born on July 22 and passed away on July 24, 1961. Mary Ann passed away on November 12, 1961.
Orval lived with his parents and helped them farm. He also worked for Bill Kumpf as a farm/cattle hand. He enjoyed working with his hands and being outside. He also enjoyed his daughter and grandchildren, Cristina & Kyle, when they came to visit.
Orval was known around Shelby for riding his bike for miles everyday and going around picking up empty cans and other treasures that he would find on his walks. He loved listening to polka music.
Orval is survived by his daughter, Judy Smith of Columbus, grandson, Kyle (Alicia) Sunderland of Columbus, granddaughter, Cristina (Jeff) Winings and their two children: Tyler & Tyson all of O'Neill. Numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary Ann, his infant son, Ronald Merl, and his sister and brother-in-law, Florence (John) Forney.
