Norma Stara, 85, of David City, died Sunday, January 30, 2011 at St. Joseph's Villa in David City.
Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at 10:00am in St. Mary's Church with Fr. Bernard Kimminau officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis(Center)Cemetery, rural David City.
Viewing will be Tuesday, from 2-5pm at Chermok Funeral Home and after 6pm at St. Mary's Church, followed by a 7pm PCCW rosary also at the church. Additional viewing will be on Wednesday from 9-10am in the church.
Norma was the youngest daughter of Ludvik and Frances (Holcapek) Hasik, born June 17, 1925 in Abie, Nebraska. She graduated from David City High School. She worked a brief time in California during WWII as a "Rosie the Rivetor". She was an elementary teacher, wife and homemaker.
She married Albin L. Stara on October 22, 1945 in St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Bruno, Nebraska. Their marriage was blessed with four children.
She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, rural David City where she served as an organist. In 1979 they moved off the farm into David City and became members of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was devoted to her faith, family and friends. Norma enjoyed listening to Czech music, playing cards, cooking and baking. She had a love of iris and at one time had over 80 varieties at the home farm.
Norma is survived by her husband, Albin of David City, children and their spouses: Grayce (Victor) Lechtenberg of West Lafayette, Indiana; Jim (Donna) Stara of David City; Aloha (Tom) Schmid of Waco, Nebraska and Bonnie (Norman) Andrews of Dwight, Nebraska; 16 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren; sister Gladyce Woita Lee of Scottsdale, Arizona; brothers-in-law: Eugene (Shirley) Stara, Donald (Marlene) Stara, Kenny (Betty) Stara, Ernie (Jane) Stara,; sister-in-law: Adelene Jakub, Delores (Eugene) Coufal, Martha (Jerry) Glenn, Sally (Eugene) Siroky and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brother and sister-in-law: George and Adeline Hasik, sister and brother-in-law: Evelyn and Woodrow Dvorak, infant brother Ervin, brothers-in-law: Stanley Woita and Hank Jacob and sister-in-law: Marcella Stara.
