Funeral service for Mildred Fichtl, age 94 of Schuyler, will be held on Friday, December 11, 2015 at 10:30 AM at the Svoboda Funeral Home North Chapel. Visitation will be held at the North Chapel on Thursday from 5 PM to 8 PM and on Friday starting at 9:30 AM. Burial will be in the Schuyler Cemetery. Mildred died December 5th at the Schuyler Hospital.
Mildred was born November 23, 1921 in Columbus to John C. and Mary (Sloup) Wachal. She attended rural school district #16 and worked on the farm with her father picking corn by hand, shocking wheat and hauling and stacking hay. On April 19, 1949 she married Frank A. Fichtl and they farmed northwest of Schuyler until moving into Schuyler in the 1990’s. Mildred raised chickens, had a big garden and did a lot of canning. In their 57 years of marriage they traveled the USA from the east coast to the west coast and from the south to Alaska. They attended many army reunions and made good friends in many parts of the country. She still attended her granddaughters dance recitals and always remember her grandchildren and great grandchildren with cards on special occasions. Mildred served as a 4-H leader and was a member of the WFLA.
Mildred is survived by their daughter, Mary (Larry) Brakenhoff of Schuyler; two sons, Frank (Jolene) Fichtl of David City and Tom Fichtl of Schuyler; six grandchildren, Richard Brakenhoff, Sarah(Fred) Shorter, Laura (Doug) Brtek, Kim (Chris) Snyder, Clark (Michelle) Fichtl and Anna Fichtl; 12 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Martha Wachal of Columbus.

She is preceded in death by husband, Frank (7-4-2009); infant brother, Arnold and brother John D. Wachal.
Family suggest memorials to Schuyler Fire Department or the Schuyler Cemetery.
The funeral lunch will be served at St. Augustine's Parish Hall.
