Melvin J. Vrbka, 83, of Columbus, formerly of David City died Tuesday, October 15 at Meridian Gardens in Columbus.

Melvin was born on December 4, 1935 at Surprise, Nebraska to John J. and Agnes (Ruzek) Vrbka. He married Virginia Polak on Feb. 9, 1961 at St. Mary's Church in Lincoln. Four children were born to this union. Melvin was a lifelong farmer and member of St. Mary's Church. He also enjoyed playing cards, listening to polka music, kolaches and tending to his cattle. He spent his early years raising sheep and dairy cattle. He loved his life on the farm and after retirement, he and Virginia traveled in their RV across the country. He loved going to the mountains and his favorite trips were their two trips to Alaska.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Virginia of Columbus, Children: John(Tina)Vrbka of Bellevue, Jerry (Christina) Vrbka of Lincoln, Kathy (Paul) Yrkoski and Ann (David) Peterson both of Columbus. One sister, Regina Skala of David City, 9 grandchildren: Tiffany, Angie, and Andrew Yrkoski, Kirsten, Nicole, and Aaron Peterson, Laura, Matthew, & Patrick Vrbka. One great granddaughter, Paisley Ann.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Reynold Vrbka and Brothers-in-law, Eugene Riha & Marvin Skala.
