Melissa A. Lavicky, age 58 of Dwight, died Thursday June 21, 2012 at the Butler County Health Care Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday June 25, at 10:00 AM at Assumption Catholic Church in Dwight with Fr. Jerel Scholl as celebrant. Interment will follow at Assumption Catholic Cemetery. Viewing will be on Sunday from 3 until 5 PM at Chermok Funeral Home and after 6 PM at the church with a 7 PM Rosary. Viewing will resume one hour prior to mass on Monday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been suggested to the family in her name; The American Cancer Society; David Place; Dwight Vol. Fire Department or to the David City Library.
Melissa was born June 14, 1954 to Francis and Mary Alice (Svoboda) Rea at Schuyler, NE. She was a graduate of Clarkson School of Nursing. Melissa was united in marriage to Val Lavicky on October 21, 1976 in Schuyler.
She was a member of Assumption Catholic Church, Dwight Vol. Fire Department, as well as an EMT. She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, going to garage sales, crocheting, playing cards, traveling, reading and bingo. She was a dedicated nurse at David Place since 1982, she always enjoyed making the residents there feel special; she was a good friend.
Survivors include: husband Val of Dwight; son Jason (Tori) Lavicky of David City; daughter Megan (Greg) Kozisek of Brainard, brother Michael (Pattie) Rea of Schuyler; sisters Sue (Dick) Messersmith of Columbus; Margaret (Lloyd) Stevenson of Richland and Beth Cerny of Alamosa, CO; as well as 5 grandchildren: Keegan, Krae and Kasen Lavicky and Reese and Grant Kozisek; sisters and brothers in law Maxine (Willis) Svoboda of Brainard; Pat (Tim) Brock of Silver Creek; Dan (Ann) Lavicky of Lincoln and Chuck (Cathy) Lavicky of Dwight. She was preceded in death by her parents and infant daughter Danielle.
