Maryann Svoboda Moravec, age 92 of David City, Nebraska died peacefully at Ridgewood Care Center in Seward on Tuesday, December 9, 2014.
IN LIEU OF FLOWERS: Memorials to Immaculate Conception Church or Aquinas High School.
Maryann was born on September 1, 1922, on a farm near Yanka, Nebraska to Frank and Christine Jirovsky Svoboda. She spent her childhood doing what she loved best: riding horses and working alongside her father outdoors. She married Richard Moravec on May 7, 1947 at Assumption Catholic Church, Appleton.
As a devoted farm wife, she dedicated her life to caring for their six children, milking the cow and raising chickens and ducks. The kitchen was her domain and she took great pride in her kolaches, rolls and three layer cakes. Favorite pastimes were attending Aquinas and grandchildren’s events, polka dancing and auctions. Checking the cows was a daily activity she loved until the very end.
Maryann was flower superintendent of the county fair, a member of the Altar Society and a lifetime member of the church choir. One of her favorite activities was being involved with the Union Extension Club where they raised thousands of dollars for local charities through their auction lunch stand efforts.
