Mary A. Swanda, 98, of Brainard, passed away Thursday, June 24, 2010 at St. Joseph's Villa in David City. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am Monday, June 28, 2010 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Brainard. Visitation will be from 2-5 pm Sunday at Holesovsky Mortuary in Brainard, and after 6 pm at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, followed by a Rosary at 7:00 pm. Burial will be in the New Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Mary was born on February 2, 1912 in Brainard to James and Frances (Riha) Petrzilka. She attended school in Brainard. On December 21,1933 she married Cyril C. Swanda in Iowa. She was a housewife, caregiver, and correspondent for the Banner-Press newspaper.
Mary was a member of the PCCW, and Holy Trinity Catholic Church. She enjoyed listening to polka music, reading and watching games shows on TV.
Mary is survived by her son Gerald J. (Phyllis) Swanda of Brainard; daughter Marlene L. (Jim) Linderman of Lincoln; brother, Ernest (Twila) Petrzilka of Brainard; sisters: Rita Herms of Brainard, and Dorothy (Lloyd) Doeden of Glendale, AZ; sister-in-law Edith Petrzilka of David City; 18 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband Cyril in January 1959, sons Edward, Bill and Gary Lee; Daughters Norma Kavan, Darlene Maly and Margie Petrzilka; brothers Jim and George Petrzilka; sisters: Bessie Patocka and Helen Hurt and Great Grandson Jeremy Beckman.
Memorials are suggested to Holy Trinity Church Buillding Fund, Brainard Volunteer Fire Department or Family's Choice.
