Mary Jo Taylor, 81, of David City passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2025 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln.
Funeral Services for Jo will be held on Thursday, February 6, at 10 a.m. at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in David City. Visitation will be from 9 until 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Interment will be in the David City Cemetery with lunch following in the church social hall. Moravec Johnson Mortuary is handling arrangements for Jo’s family.
Mary Jo was born on January 13, 1944 in David City, Nebraska to Charles and Marie (Kasparek) Vasina. She graduated from David City High School with the class of 1962. After high school she attended Methodist College in Omaha where she received her degree in nursing in 1965. After graduation, she worked for Bryan Hospital in Lincoln. In 1966, she married Donald Taylor at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in David City. After the marriage, Don and Jo moved to Georgia, Colorado, and then back to Nebraska to begin their family.
After returning back to David City, Jo worked for many years for the Butler County Health Department as a home health nurse, and continued working for Butler County Hospital after the two organizations merged, retiring in 2011.
Jo was always involved in many aspects of the community through her work and volunteer activities. Providing care to her home health patients and their families was very important to her. She enjoyed supporting extracurricular acitivites when her children were in school and doing school health checks across the county for many years beyond that. She supported the Senior Center, Food Connection, and was a Friend of the Library. She enjoyed reading a good library book as well as tennis, pickle ball, and long walks with friends. She also looked forward to traveling with Don and visiting her grandchildren in Texas. Her faith was very important to her and she looked forward to helping out with various duties around St. Luke's.
She is survived by her husband Don of 58 years, her children Mark (Patti) Taylor of North Richland Hills, TX and their children Delaney and Daniel; Michelle (Jess) Robins of Omaha; and Jessica (Tyler) Samek of David City, siblings: Gwen Stuart, Mike (Shirley) Vasina, and John (Carol) Vasina as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jo is preceded in death by her parents, and brother-in-law Chuck Stuart.
Memorials can be designated to the family for future designation.
