Mary M. Adamy, 85, of Bellwood, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2009 at St. Joseph's Villa in David City. Services are 10:30 am Tuesday, May 19 at Presentation Church in rural Bellwood. Visitation will be from 5 - 7 pm Mon. May 18, followed by a 7 pm Rosary all at Presentation Church. Visitation will continue Tues. one hour before the services at Presentation Church. Burial will be at Sts. Peter & Mary Cemetery in Bellwood.Mary was born December 8, 1923 in Bruno, NE to Edward and Mary (Coufal) Pelan. She received her teaching degree from Concordia College in Seward, NE. She was a school teacher for 43 years, beginning in the Bellwood Country School District 7 in the early 40's. Mary was united in marriage to Leo R. Adamy on January 28, 1946 at St. Bonaventure Church in Columbus, NE. They lived their entire lives in the Bellwood area as a farm family. After meeting Leo, Mary's career took her to Marrietta School at presentation Parish in Bellwood until the school closed. Mary was transferred to St. Mary School in David City as a 3rd grade teacher. In 1975 she became the special education teacher at the David City Elementary School until retiring in 1988.Mary served on the Board of the Butler County Health Care Center from 1977 to 2001. She was co-owner of Adamy Chevrolet and Oldsmobile in David City from 1983 to 1996. She worked at David City Manufacturing for 14 years after retiring from teaching. Mary enjoyed crocheting during her retirement years and received several 1st place ribbons at the Butler County Fair. She enjoyed Polka music and loved to prepare big meals for family and friends. She was a member of Presentation parish, and the Altar Society. Mary was a faithful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and member of the community.Mary is survived by sons: Patrick and special friend, Debra Berchtold, of Columbus, Carroll (Deb) of Bellwood, Gerald of Bellwood, and John (Amy) of Columbus; brother-in-law: Robert F. Adamy of David City; sister-in-law: Kathleen Adamy of David City; eight grandchildren: Dana, Doug, Darrin, Christy, LeAnn, Clayton, Elizabeth, and Chase; and two great grandchildren: Konner and Delayne.She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo R.
