Martha Helgoth, 93, of David City died Saturday, October 12, 2019 at the Butler County Health Care Center in David City.

Martha Hain Helgoth was born March 3, 1926 near Brainard, Nebraska to John and Mary (Kolar) Hain. She attended Holy Trinity Catholic School in Brainard and Dwight Assumption and graduated from Dwight Assumption High School. Martha worked at the bomb loading plant near Mead, Nebraska, then later at the law offices of Tomek and Tomek. She married Richard F. Helgoth, upon his return from the war, on February 9, 1946 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, David City. They made their home south east of Garrison from March 1946 to March 1951, then moved to a farm South East of David City where they resided for 43 years. Two children were born of this union, Roger and Carol Mae. They belonged to St. Francis Center Parish, where Martha was a member of the Altar Society, participating for many years in the annual Parish Spaghetti Dinner, and contributing to many quilts for parish raffles. She took great pride in her vegetable and flower gardens and working along side Richard on the farm. She was a wonderful cook, hosting many family dinners on the farm and she was a skilled seamstress. Upon retiring from farming, they moved to David City.
Martha passed away suddenly while residing at St. Joseph’s Court. Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, siblings, Boh, John, Marie Devlin and Msgr. Raymond Hain. She is survived by her brother, George Hain, sister-in-law, Rosemarie Helgoth, son, Roger (Charlene), daughter, Carol Mae Manning (Jim). Grandchildren: Lesley Helgoth McLaughlin (Patrick), Alison Helgoth Dibelka (David), Monica Manning, Mark Manning, Audrey Manning, and Anne Manning. Great Grandchildren: Virginia, Henry and Lucy Dibelka, and many nieces and nephews. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
