Martha D. Fiala, 91, of David City, passed away Saturday, November 8, 2008 at the Butler County Health Care Center in David City.
Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at 10:00am in St. Mary's Church, David City with Msgr. Adrian Herbek officiating. Per Martha's request, there will be no viewing. Signing of the register book will be Monday from 2-5pm at Chermok Funeral Home, or after 6pm at St. Mary's Church followed by a 7pm PCCW rosary also at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, David City.
Martha was born to Anton and Stacie(Sabata) Svoboda on March 29, 1917 on the farm near David City. She worked at the Butler County Hospital as cook for many years moving her way up to head cook until her retirement after 49 1/2 yrs. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, St. Mary's PCCW and Rosary Auxiliary. She enjoyed baking, especially making rosettes, strudels and kolache. She also made many wedding cakes for couples throughtout the years. After her retirement, she loved doing crafts, crocheting, going to flea markets and playing cards.
Martha is survived by her daugher and son-in-law: Bev and Gerald Steager of David City, her three grandchildren: Bill(Trish) Steager; Annette(Gary)Siegel; and Scott(Chelsea)Steager. Her six Great-grandchildren: Shania, Trevin and Kaley Steager and Brandon, Blake and Cody Siegel. Her six brothers: Louis(Aggie)Svoboda; Rudy(Marcie)Svoboda; Cyril(Irene) Svoboda; Dennis Svoboda; Valerian(Joan)Svoboda and Emil Svoboda all of David City; two sisters: Rose Jakub and Elsie Ponec both of David City.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Jim, Joe, Adolph, Laddie Svoboda; Sisters: Mary Cemper, Lucille Pleskac, Mildred Chubb
