Marie was born October 25, 1918 in Stanton County, north of Howells, to Joseph and Matilda (Pospichal) Kalisek and she received her education in a Stanton County rural school. On October 25, 1938 she married Stanley Cerny in Dodge and they farmed in the Albion area but Stanley died unexpectedly in 1963. Marie married Otto Brazda on May 12, 1970 at Heun and they moved to Fremont where they lived until moving to Schuyler in 1977. Marie enjoyed quilting, baking (her specialties were kolaches and apple strudel), dancing, playing cards and traveling with Otto. Marie was always a hard worker and instilled that in her children. She was a good hearted and patient lady. Marie died January 5, 2012, at the age of 93, at Golden Living Center in Schuyler where she had been a resident since March of 2007. Marie is survived by six children, Trish (Randy) Johnson of Oakland, John (Julie) Cerny of Fremont, Bernard (Kay) Cerny of Avoca, IA,., Steve (Cathy) Cerny of Fremont, Thomas (Janet) Cerny of Dorchester, Dan (Carol) Cerny of Bennington; son-in-law, Warren Matson of Schuyler; daughter-in-law, Elaine Cerny of Phoenix, AZ; 21 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; brother, Joe (Slava) Kalisek of Twin Falls, ID; sister, Madge Vose of La Crescenta, CA; sisters-in-law, Mary Alice Kalisek of Nampa, ID, Tril Cerny of Fremont and Alma Bart of Howells; step brother-in-law, Ray (Marcy) Karel of Clarkson; step sister-in-law, Wilma Barta of Howells. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Stanley Cerny (1963) and Otto Brazda ( 2005); daughters, Jane Frances Cerny and Rose Marie Matson; sons, Stanley Cerny, Jr and Michael Cerny; sisters, Betty Yapelli and Angela Martin; brothers, John and (infant) Paul Kalisek Family suggest memorials to Family Choice. Funeral lunch will be served at the St. Augustine's Parish Hall following the burial at Clyde Cemetery, rural Rogers.
