Mass of Christian Burial for Margaret Jane Hrouda, age 87 of Schuyler, will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday December 6, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Schuyler. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4 PM to 7 PM and on Tuesday from 9 Am to 10:15 AM all at the Svoboda Funeral Home North Chapel. Rosary will be recited at 7 PM on Monday at the North Chapel. Burial will be in the Schuyler Cemetery.
Margaret was born February 25, 1929 at Clarkson, NE to Louis and Lucille (Limbach) Janecek. She attended and graduated from Howells Public Schools and also attended a two year business school. She worked as the Deputy County Assessor in the Colfax County courthouse for 2 ½ years before marrying Leonard Robert Hrouda on May 29, 1949 at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Schuyler. She later worked at the Schuyler News Stand that she and Leonard owned, she was the local distributer of the Omaha World Herald from 1957 to 1972. She worked as a cook at the Schuyler Jr. High School and then in the treasures office of Colfax County for about 20 years. She was also a Girl Scout leader for several years. Margaret had been a member of several local clubs including garden, card, bridge and Pinnacle. She was a member of St. Mary’s Guild and served as a Eucharistic Minister. She loved to play cards, grow iris and lilacs, cook, sew, cross stich and dance. Margaret died December 2, 2016 at Stanton Health Care in Stanton where she had been a resident since February of 2016.
Margaret is survived by six of their children; Randy (Eileen) of Schuyler, Jeff (Janet) of Norfolk, Laurie (Kevin) Johnson of Norfolk, Jim of Wymore, NE, Robert (Monique) of Shoreline, WA, Marie (Mark) Valeika of Bennington, NE; 16 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard (10/18/2011); son, Kendall (3/29/1975); brothers, Richard and Tom Janecek.
