Marcella Votava, 94, of Schuyler passed away Sunday, June 30, 2019 at Clarkson Community Care Center.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to First Presbyterian Church of Schuyler or the Schuyler Historical Society.
Marcella was born on February 3, 1925 on the family farm to Ladislav and Anna (Vavra) Dvorak. She attended rural elementary school and went on to graduate from Schuyler High School in 1941. Marcella was married to Anton J. Votava on June 17, 1947 in Schuyler. She and Anton were co-owners and operators of A&M Variety store in downtown Schuyler for over 20 years.
Marcella was a devout member of First Presbyterian Church where she served as a trustee, sang in the choir, and belonged to the Presbyterian Women’s Organization. She enjoyed quilt making, crocheting, sewing in her spare time, and started the Sewing Circle group at church. Marcella’s favorite past time, as any family member would agree with, was catching up and reminiscing with her nieces and nephews. She was also very proud of her Czechoslovakian heritage.
She is survived by her daughters Annette Votava of Schuyler and Patricia Votava of Denver, Colorado as well as nine nieces and nephews.
Marcella was preceded in death by her parents, husband Anton in 1998; brother Robert (Marcella) Dvorak; sisters Olga (Everett) Hahn and Agnes Dvorak.
