Mabel was born August 14, 1913 in Dodge County to Alfred and Emma (Stoltenberg) Haase. She attended rural schools in Dodge County and graduated from Dodge High School in 1931. She then attended Midland College in Fremont and taught in rural schools for five years in the Pleasant Valley area. On September 1, 1937 she married Hershel Peters at St. John's Lutheran Church in Schuyler. Mabel was active in church work at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in rural Dodge County and then at St. John's in Schuyler after they moved to Schuyler in 1975. Mabel enjoyed cooking, baking, playing cards, quilting and Bingo. She died January 15th, at the age of 97, at Prairie Village in Columbus where she had been a resident for several years. Mabel is survived by two daughters, Joyce (Skip) Knudsen of San Diego, CA and JoAnn "Jody" (Ed) Oeltjen of Portland, OR; daughter-in-law, Joyce Peters (Dan) Meysenburg of Columbus; seven grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband, Hershel (September 30, 2004); son, Marlan (August 21, 1995); brother, Clarence Haase. Family suggest memorials to St. John's Lutheran Church or Schuyler Senior Center. Funeral lunch will be served at the church immediately following the funeral service and burial at Purple Cane Cemetery will be held at 1:30 PM on Tuesday.
