Mabel E. Huisenga age 91, died Friday April 29, 2011 at David Place in David City.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday May 2, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. David Palomaki officiating. Interment will follow at the Garrison Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3 to 5 PM at Chermok Funeral Home in David City.
Memorials have been suggested to the Garrison Cemetery or the Parkinson's Association.
Mabel Elisa Huisenga was born on March 16, 1920 to John Bernard and Martha (Fricke) Daro at Ulysses, NE. She attended school through the 8th grade and later earned her GED. Mabel was united in marriage to George Huisenga on July 4, 1939 at Staplehurst, NE; they were blessed with 9 children.
Mabel was a housewife, but also worked at Dale Electronics and then became a substitute mail carrier for her brother John; later working inside the post office as well as delivering in town. After retirement, she kept busy with Meals on Wheels, sewing, embroidering, especially making quilts of all sizes and participating at the Senior Center. She was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Mabel is survived by her 4 daughters; Joyce (Ed) Draper of Glenwood, IA, Maxine Freeman of Garrison, Susie (Larry) Sedlak of Dwight and Mary Williams of Lincoln; 2 sons; George (Nida) Huisenga of Grimes, IA, Howard (Kathy) Huisenga of Joplin, MO; son in law Dan Schmidt of Garrison; daughter in law Sandy Huisenga of Indianapolis, IN; sister in law Evie Daro of David City; 15 grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, George in 1971, two sons: Robert and Richard Huisenga; daughter: Laura Schmidt; 5 brothers and 4 sisters.
