Lucille G. Litjen, 93, of David City, passed away October 24, 2014 at david place in David City.
Lucille was born July 25, 1921 on the family farm near Surprise, NE, the second child to Oswold and Mayme (O'Hare) Lux. She lived in that area, and attended country school and graduated from Surprise High School in 1938. Lucille married Robert Litjen on November 27, 1944 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelby.
She was a good mother and housewife, raising her three sons, Michael, Jerold, and Thomas. Lucille volunteered helping in community work. She loved to bake, cook, sew, quilt at St. Joseph's Villa, and alter clothes for local ladies.
After her boys began school, she took employment at the County Treasurer until transferring to Deputy County Assessor where she served that position until 1972 when she was elected County Assessor. She retired in 1978, and began doing volunteer work again until she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. . The 1st 15 years of retirement, she and her husband went traveling with the Travel Club. Lucille was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and St. Mary's PCCW.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Robert; sons: Michael (Karen) Litjen, of Springfield, NE, Jerold (Sally) Litjen, of Friendswood, TX, and Thomas (Kathy) Litjen, of Falls Church, VA; 9 grandchildren: Allison, Todd, Brent, Bryce, Ryan, Ben, Grant, Parker, and Banks; 4 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Lucille is preceded in death by her parents; brother: George; and sister: Evelyn.
In Lieu of Flowers, The family has suggested memorials to: St. Mary's Church, Masses, or to the Alzheimer's Association.
Private family burial will take place at a later date.
