A Mass of Christian Burial for 85 year old Lorene J. Svatora of Schuyler will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, April 9, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Schuyler. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Svoboda Funeral Home North Chapel with a Parish Rosary beginning at 7:00 P.M. Visitation will resume on Saturday from 9:00 A.M. until 10:15 A.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Schuyler Cemetery .
Lorene was born June 1, 1930 on the family farm near Schuyler in Colfax County to Albin and Josephine (Dlouhy) Shonka. She was Baptized and Confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in Schuyler. She attended District 16 elementary school and St. Bonaventure High School. On June 12, 1951 Lorene married Lloyd J. Svatora at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was a homemaker, a member of St. Mary’s Church, and St. Mary’s Altar Society. She enjoyed researching family history, gardening, canning, sewing, her cats, socializing, word search puzzles, playing cards and was known for her baking, especially her horn rolls. Lorene died April 5th at her home.
Lorene is survived by daughter, Linda Svatora and (special friend Mike Menke) of Omaha; two sons, Leslie (Mary) Svatora of Columbus and Leroy (Sallie) Svatora of Waverly; 12 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and a sister-in-law Mary Ann Shonka.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Lloyd in 2008, brothers, Lambert and Kenneth Shonka, sister Norma Svehla, and brothers-in-law, Elmer Edward and Eldon Svatora.
Family suggests memorials to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or the Schuyler Senior Center.
