Lila was born on January 6, 1930 just outside of Bellwood to Paul J. and Elsie (Bock) Kruse. She graduated from Bellwood High School in 1947. Shortly after, she married her high school sweetheart Charles Brandenburgh on June 3, 1947 in Bellwood. As true soulmates, the couple celebrated 70 years together just before Charlie’s passing in 2017.

Lila truly embodied what it meant to be a wife and mother. After starting a family, Lila stayed at home to look after and raise their children. She enjoyed cooking, going to school events, and taking care of their home. Her cooking was unmatched and her grandkids loved waking up to something fresh out of the oven when they would stay over at grandma Lila’s. Lila was also famous for her Sunday fried chicken and it was never a problem for her to whip up a meal if you were hungry. She loved spending time outdoors fishing or camping, “helping” Charlie in the shop putting his tools away where she thought they belonged, and dancing away a Saturday night with Charlie at the Oak Ballroom or the Flying V. Lila was immensely proud of her family and never missed an opportunity to talk about her kids or grandkids.

She is survived by her children: Christopher (Joanna) Brandenburgh of Bellwood, Connie (Dean)Heins of David City, Charles (Barb) Brandenburgh Olathe, Kansas, sister-in-law Delores Brandenburgh, brother-in-law Don Peters, 10 grandchildren: Stacy (Pat) Cabela, Dr. Mandy (Mike) Johnson, Clint (Celeste) Brandenburgh, Mike (Trish) Heins, Dustin (Tiffany) Heins, Jake (Jaci) Heins, Gretchen (Tim) Bixenmann, Sara (Russ) Ellis, Dr. Lance (Amy) Brandenburgh and Jordan (Sadie) Brandenburgh; 23 Great-grandchildren with 3 on the way, 1 great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Lila is preceded in death by her parents, husband Charlie in 2017, one grandson Eric Brandenburgh, and one brother Richard (Theresa) Kruse.
