Leland Novacek, 61, of Valparaiso continued his 9 1/2 year battle with cancer until July 18, 2018 when he passed at home surrounded by his wife and daughters.

Leland was born July 17, 1957 to Victor and Laverne(Anderly) Novacek in David City. He graduated from Aquinas in 1976, and went to get an Auto Body Technology Degree from Southeast Community College in Milford. On August 11, 1984 he was united in marriage to Cheryl Buresh in Valparaiso. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Jamie & Heather.
Leland loved raising cattle and going to cattle shows, county fairs, and state fairs. He liked to deer hunt, collect toy tractors, and was very particular about many things; his lawn, clean vehicles, his garden and his shop. He was an early riser and loved taking on the day one task at a time. Leland admired and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play and grow. He was a member of the Sons of American Legion, Past 4-H Leader of Oak Creek Kids, Past member of FFA State Board, and FFA Alumni.
He is survived by his mother: Laverne Novacek; wife of 34 years Cheryl; daughters: Jamie(Shane) Johnson and Heather(Shane) Sisel both of Valparaiso; 3 grandchildren: Bennet, Landon and Kacie; brothers: Greg(Deb) Novacek of Seward and Rick(Julie) Novacek of Brainard; mother and father-in-law: Norma(James) Buresh; sisters-in-law: Joan(Wayne) Westergaard and Terri(Steve) Adkins and nieces and nephews.
Leland is preceded in death by his father: Victor; infant brother: Victor Jr.; brother-in-law: Doug Buresh; grandparents and aunts and uncles.
