Larry Svoboda, 69, of Surprise, passed away peacefully, Saturday, April 7, 2018 at David Place in David City.

Mr. Svoboda was born June 12, 1948 in David City to George and Alice(Cemper) Svoboda. He graduated from Rising City High School in 1968. He married Hanziena(Haase) Schultz on February 14th, 1970 and enjoyed 48 years of marriage.
He was employed at Behlen Manufacturing in Columbus for 36 years. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception church in Ulysses. He was also a member of the Surprise Village Board for more than 13 years.
He enjoyed racing stock cars, fishing, trapping turtles, collecting coins, welding, tinkering in the garage, and watching birds and squirrels. Larry enjoyed the geese that would come down to the Surprise park every spring and took pride in his gardening. He enjoyed his children and his grandchildren. He always had a smile on his face and was always so thankful.
Survivors include his wife Hanziena of Surprise; sons: Dwaine Svoboda of David City, Todd Svoboda of Surprise, and Roger Schultz of Columbus; daughters: Sheila (Jim) Klement of Ulysses and Donna Schultz (Scott) Leifert of Surprise; sister Carol(Ray) Harris of Yankton, SD and 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his infant son Larry Svoboda Jr., his parents George and Alice Svoboda, and his brother Gary Svoboda.
