Larry J. Sloup, 71, of David City, died Sunday, May 4, 2014 at david place in David City, Nebraska.
Larry Sloup was born on April 29, 1943 at David City to Stanley and Blanche(Pribyl)Sloup. He grew up on the family farm and attended school in the Ulysses area, being Validictorian of his 8th grade class and then two years at Ulysses High School before coming to David City and graduating from David City High School in 1961. He went on to Business School at NBI in Lincoln and later attended the University of Colorado Banking School where he graduated. He started out in banking at the Ulysses Bank in 1963, then moved to David City, where he was Vice-President of the David City Bank for over 20 years. He also served as manager of the David City Senior Center for 12 years.
He married Darlene Svoboda on April 18, 1964 at Assumption Catholic Church, Appleton. Eight children were born to this union.
Larry also served as past president of the David City Chamber of Commerece, David City Jaycees, the David City High School Alumi Association, He was active in the David City Volunteer Fire Department, serving as secretary/treasurer for over 30 years. He also served as a past president for the Nebraska State Volunteer Firefighters Assocation and was inducted into the Nebraska Firefighters Hall of Fame. He enjoyed playing softball, golfing, hunting, trapshooting, playing cards and being outdoors.
Larry is survived by wife, Darlene, children: Peg(Brad)Montag of Norfolk, Pam(Rick)Vavrina of Abie, Jamy(Jenny)Sloup of Columbus, Linda(John)Vandenberg of David City, Mike(Sheila)Sloup of Columbus, Mark Sloup and fiance Tayler Starzl and Brad Sloup, all of David City 14 Grandchildren and Brother: Dennis Sloup of David City.
He was preceded in death by his parents,and infant twin daughter, Mary Sloup.
