Lambert Beran, 92, of Schuyler, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2014 in Schuyler. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 25th at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Schuyler. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Svoboda Funeral Home North Chapel followed by a 7 p.m. Wake Service and Rosary. Visitation will continue Friday from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Schuyler Cemetery.
Lambert was born to Frank and Emma (Cerny) Beran on December 9, 1921 on the family farm south of Howells. He attended school through the 8th grade at which time he took over the operation of the family farm. On June 12, 1945, Lambert married Alma Mejstrik at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Tabor (rural Howells). They farmed near Howells and upon moving to Howells in 1956 they owned Beran Hardware Store and Beran Plumbing and Heating. They retired and moved to Schuyler in 1992.
Lambert served on the Howells School Board for many years. He was a member of S.S. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Howells, St. Leonard’s Catholic Church in Madison and St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Schuyler. He loved farming, gardening, fishing, playing cards, dancing, and listening to Polka music.
Lambert is survived by his wife, Alma, of Schuyler, sons: Kenneth (Linda) Beran of Kingsland, TX, Richard (Millie) Beran of Fremont; daughter: Janice (Allen) Wedekind of Lindsay, NE; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; sister Angie Weber of Norfolk and sister-in-law Anna Beran of Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Frank, and brother-in-law Art Weber.
The family requests in lieu of flowers memorials to St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, the Benedictine Mission House or the Schuyler Senior Center.
