Katherine L. Bals

Kathy Bals, 61, of Rising City, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025 at the Butler County Health Center. 

Memorials can be directed towards the Rising City Volunteer Fire and Rescue. 

A Celebration of Life Service for Kathy will be on Friday, February 28, at 11 a.m. at Moravec Johnson Mortuary in David City. Visitation will be held from 10:30 until 11 at the mortuary. Her family will do a private burial of her ashes will be at a later date. There will be a lunch following the service at Northside in David City. Moravec Johnson Mortuary is handling arrangements for Kathy's Family. 

Katherine Lynne Bals was born on March 9, 1963 in Omaha, Nebraska to Delton and Rosalie (Zegers) Buck. Kathy graduated with the class of 1981 from Aquinas. 

Kathy's family was her world, she loved her kids and grandkids more than anything. She always put her needs last to take care of everyone around her.

She loved cross- stitching and crocheting and was always making things for those she loved. Kathy had a fascination with the old pioneer days and always wished she could go back and experience that first hand. She collected all the Laura Ingalls Wilder books and read them all. She loved fishing and playing cards. She also loved the cold and talked often of going to Alaska. She also enjoyed putting puzzles together. 

She is survived by her children, Earl Bals of Ravenna, Kelsey Bals of Rising City, and Lisa (Taylor) Peterson of Gresham; Grandchildren Ashton Hjort, Cami Hjort, Hayden Connors, Jack Peterson, and Sylvia Peterson; siblings Ronald (Teri) Buck of Phoenix, AZ, Kevin Buck of Labolt, SD, and Jean (Duane) Pearson of Lincoln, NE as well as many nieces and nephews. 

Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, and brothers Daniel and Wesley Buck.
