Judith "Judy" Kabourek, age 64 of Brainard, died Sunday November 27, 2011 at the Butler County Health Care Center in David City.
Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at 10:00am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Brainard with Fr. Matthew Eickhoff as celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday, from 2-5pm at Holesovsky Mortuary in Brainard and after 6:00pm at the church followed by a 7:30pm parish rosary. Catholic Daughters of America will recite a rosary at 4:00pm at Holesovsky Mortuary in Brainard.
Memorials have been suggested to Bishop Neuman High School; Village of Brainard or to the Butler County Fairgrounds.
Judy was born in Lincoln, NE on November 28, 1946 to Joseph & Marie (Walla) Kadavy. She grew up on a family farm near Loma with three sisters and a brother. Judy attended elementary school in a one room school in rural Butler County and graduated from East Butler High School. She received both her Bachelors and Masters in Education. She began her teaching career in a one room Butler County School. She taught in Colon, NE for many years and also ran her own Day Care in Wahoo, NE. She then became Principal at Richland School District, until her retirement in 2008. Her love of teaching continued after her retirement with substitute teaching.
Judy married Ernest Kabourek on August 19, 1967. Judy and Ernie made their home in Brainard. Annette and Jerry Kabourek were born to this union. Judy and Ernie’s adopted children are Mari Beth and Kristin Kabourek.
Judy was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of David City, a member of the Brainard Village Board, an American Auxiliary Member, she was a past 4-H leader and girls softball coach, along with numerous other organizations. She had a lifetime membership in the National Education Association. She also spent numerous hours helping with the Butler County Fair.
Judy will long be remembered for her love of family. She and Ernie were the host parents to many foreign exchange students. She and Ernie spent many hours watching their granddaughters participate in school & sporting events. Her creative talents included helping her granddaughters make many projects for their local county fairs. Judy loved growing plants. Her vegetables and flowers won many awards. She loved to share seeds from her garden with family and friends. She had a deep love for animals and throughout the years cared for many dogs and cats. Judy’s creative talents continued with her ability to restore old furniture, especially trunks. Her family members all have a piece of furniture restored by Judy. She was currently in the process of restoring chairs for the Holy Trinity Church. In 1997, Judy received a precious gift when she underwent a successful liver transplant.
Judy will lovingly be remembered by her husband Ernest of Brainard; son & daughter-in-law Jerry & Dee Kabourek of Wahoo; granddaughters Haley, Hannah, & Hilary Kabourek of Wahoo; daughters Mari Beth of Lincoln, NE and Kristin of California; sisters Kathy(Darrell) Kubik of Lincoln, NE, Charlene (Bob) Havlovic of Brainard, NE, Mary Jo (Dale) Buhl of Lindsay, NE, brother Dan (Laurie) Kadavy of Dwight, NE; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, former students, and friends.
Judy will be welcomed into heaven by her daughter Annette and her parents, Joseph and Marie Kadavy.
