John J. Rerucha, 95, of David City died Jan. 28 at David Place in David City.
Funeral mass will be Monday, February 3, 2014 at 10:00am at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Fr. Bernard Kimminau officiating. Viewing will be Sunday from 12-1pm at St. Mary's with a 1pm Rosary service. Refreshments will follow the rosary at the school auditorium.. There will be no viewing on Monday before the Funeral Mass.
Memorials: Masses, St. Mary's Endowment Fund or Aquinas Endowment Fund.
John J. Rerucha was born on August 16, 1918 on the family farm near Bruno to John and Agnes(Novacek)Rerucha. John lived in the Bruno area until 1942 when he was drafted in the army.
He served in the Artillery Division upon his induction until joining the Army Reserves where he served until his honorable discharge on Jan. 31, 1946. His tour of duty included the European Theatre, fighting in central Europe and the Rhineland Campaigns. He was awarded two Bronze Battle Stars during this time. He was a gunman on a 155 Howitzer, remaining in the occupied theatre until his end of tour duty.
Upon his discharge, he married Anna Samek on Sept. 14, 1946 at Assumption Catholic Church, Appleton. They moved to a farm near Abie where he raised grain and livestock. They belonged to Sts. Peter and Paul Church, where he was a trustee for many years. He also served as a treasurer for the Abie School District and was a member of the volunteer fire department.
They moved off the farm in 1984, building a house in David City. He kept busy helping out local farmers and building houses with his brother-in-law, Bill Samek. John took great pride in his yard and garden appearance.
Survivors include: one sister: Dolores Roh of Schuyler, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Anna in 2008, and two brothers: Frank and Victor Rerucha.
