John J. Peters, 87, of David City passed away on Monday, January 29, 2018 in Lincoln, Nebraska

John was born on March 26, 1930 on a farm near Garrison, Nebraska to Piet and Minnie (Jacobs) Peters. He attended St. Mary’s Grade School and David City High School before starting his lifelong career of farming. John was united in marriage to the love of his life Norma Jean DeWispelare on February 7, 1952 at St. Mary’s Church in David City. Their union was blessed with 4 children, 2 daughters and 2 sons. John spent the majority of his life doing what he dearly loved, farming by Surprise, Nebraska. He raised cattle, chickens, pigs, corn, milo, wheat, alfalfa, soybeans, and kids. To quote John, “my best crop every year were my kids”. He retired from farming in 1992 and moved to David City. John was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Ulysses, Nebraska where he served on the Parish Council, Cemetery Board, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He also served on the Read Township Board for several years. Upon moving to David City, he became a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church, helped groom the Cemetery and spent several years maintaining the Butler County Fairgrounds.

He is survived by his wife: Norma Jean, children: Dianne “Dee” (John) Svoboda, of Lincoln, Randy Peters, of Seward, Denise (Kevin) Havlovic, of Brainard, and Rick Peters, of Lincoln; 12 grandchildren: Jeremy (Elizabeth) Svoboda, Nicole (Shane) Chiles, Trevor (Niki) Svoboda, Shannon (Jay) Daniels, Travis (Michelle) Havlovic, Jenny (Nathan) Pautler, Bryce (Alyssa) Havlovic, Taylor Peters, Dillon Peters, Sierra Peters, Hunter Peters, and Payton Peters; 14 great-grandchildren: Courtney and Colin Svoboda, Alli and Cade Chiles, Kallie and Lucas Zitek and Kinley Svoboda, Gavin and Malik Laux and Braden Daniels, Paxton and Pryor Havlovic, Carsyn Havlovic, and Easton Pautler; siblings: Marie Kozisek, Paul Peters, and Virginia Brockevelt; and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Bill Peters, sisters: Christine Kozisek, Dorothy Zegers, and Nellie Brockeveldt
