John Hodyc, 82, of Octavia, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2019 at his home.
John's wishes were to be cremated with no services. A private family burial will take place at a later date at Edholm Valley Cemetery.
John was born on April 26, 1937 in Schuyler, to Engelbert (Bert) and Elizabeth (Booth) Hodyc. He married Barbara Lauterbach on September 23, 1968 in Columbus, Nebraska.
John was a welder for his entire life and loved working with metal. He put is skills to good use and built airboats, which he loved driving up and down the Platte River to find the best fishing spots, and to build stock cars, which he was the first one in line to drive come race day. When he wasn't welding he enjoyed spending his time in the wetlands trapping whatever animal would venture his way, and fishing on the river. John was a simple man who enjoyed the simple things that life and nature had to offer.
He is survived by his sons: Darrel (Julie) Beaumont of Hooper, NE, Jim Hodyc (significant other Jeannie) of Fremont, Jason (Sheila) Hodyc of Octavia; daughters: Brenda (Bud) Atherton of Pennsylvania, Diane DeAngelo of Florida, Penny Beaumont of Ames, NE; step-son David (Kim) Eilers of Bellwood; his sister Jackie Warsop of Marshal, Michigan, and 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
John is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 50 years Barbara, and brothers Kenneth and Joe Hodyc.
