JoAnn L. Mejstrik, 82, of Howells passed away Wednesday July 25, 2012 at Parkview Home in Dodge. JoAnn was born January 9, 1930 in Cuming County to Joseph and Anna (Yonda) Bazata. She attended Howells High School and graduated in 1947. On May 22, 1951, JoAnn married Walter Mejstrik at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Howells. JoAnn taught at rural district schools for 4 years, then was an employee at Howells High School for 20 years. She also owned a ceramic shop in Howells for many years, as well as being a 4-H Leader for Aloys Merry Maidens Club. She was a member of Women's Auxiliary, Dizzy Dozen Craft Club, St. John’s Altar Society, Howells Museum, Senior Citizens Pot Luck, Howells Women's Club, Past President’s Parlay, and WFLA. JoAnn enjoyed Bingo, casinos and spending Christmas with her family. JoAnn is survived by her husband Walter of Howells, son Ron (Barbara) Mejstrik of O’Neill; daughter Melissa (Dennis) Thorne of Lincoln; sons Chris (Dorothy) Mejstrik of Howells, and Patrick (Teresa) Mejstrik of Omaha; brothers Ervin (Elaine) Bazata of Surprise, AZ, and Marlon Bazata of Sterling, CO; sister Ardene (Ken) Peitzmeier of Norfolk, NE; 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, daughter in-law Karen Mejstrik, sister in-law Ardis Bazata, and a brother in-law Robert Mejstrik. Memorials are suggested “In Care of Family†Burial will take place at St. John Catholic Cemetery in Howells, and lunch will procede at the American Legion Hall.
