Joan Frances Hespen was born July 16, 1938 in Howells, Nebraska to Joseph and Mary (Hrouda) Hledik. She graduated from Howells High School. On June 2, 1960 Joan married Walter T. Hespen at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Howells. They lived in Schuyler until 1977 when they moved to North Bend and owned and operated JW’s Café. In 1984 they moved to Omaha where Joan worked in telemarketing.
Joan was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Omaha, the American Legion Auxillary in Howells and the V.F.W. Auxillary in Schuyler. She enjoyed puzzles, playing bingo and cards and bird watching.
Joan is survived by daughters: Amy Hespen of Omaha, Tina Hespen of Omaha, and Jo Ellen (Willie) Williams of Omaha; son: Bruce Hespen of Jewell, IA; grandchildren: Ashlee, Josh, Kourtnee and Brandon all of Iowa; and step-grandson: Tarron Domon of Omaha; brother: Leo Hledik of Oklahoma City, OK and sister: Leona Hynek of Omaha.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Walter in 2002, and sisters: Wilma Karel and Evelyn Frasier.
