Jerry L, Polacek, 97, of David City, died Thursday, May 21, 2015 at St. Joseph's Villa in David City.
Jerry was born March 3, 1918 to Edward and Anna(Ostry) Polacek, near Abie, Nebraska. He attended school in Abie and Dodge, and graduated from Dodge High School. Jerry was united in marriage to Josephine Havlovic on November 12, 1951 in Plasi, Nebraska. To this union, 10 sons and 4 daughters were born. They lived in David City until 1959 at which time they moved to a farm near Prague.
In addition to farming, Jerry worked various jobs including dry cleaning, grocery stores, truck driving and at filling stations, including Rays Oil and Northside. In 1977, they moved back to David City, where he worked at Northside until he retired. After retirement, Jerry enjoyed refinishing furniture, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a Knights of Columbus Bingo Volunteer, a Matt Talbot Volunteer, and a 3rd Degree Knight.
Jerry is survived by his children: Ken (Judy) Polacek, of David City, Kathy Larabee, of Lincoln, Dave (Connie) Polacek, of Abie, Marvin (Debra) Polacek, of Harvard, NE, Jerome (Deb) Polacek, of Crete, MaryAnn (Reggie) Briza, of Columbus, Rich (Linda) Polacek, of Abie, John (Holly Stockton) Polacek, of Moses Lake, WA, Dennis (Darla) Polacek, of Abie, Tom Polacek, of David City, Barb (Steve) Byers, of David City, Bob (Francine) Polacek, of Great Falls, MT, Marilyn (Gary) Hascall, of David City, and Jim (Elly) Polacek, of Dexter, MI; 28 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Edward (Anna) Polacek; wife: Josephine Polacek in 1982; brothers: Ernest and Edward; sisters: Lydia and Agnes; 3 grandchildren; and nephew: Jerry Aguilar.
